Working with video, photography and installation, von Sturmer’s works orchestrate a field of relations between things and people, light and space, video and time; where the encounter between audience and artwork tests the ways in which we conventionally view artworks in galleries and public space. His work activates questions about the nature of experience in perception, how language and meaning operate in art contexts, and how philosophical considerations of time may be embedded in materials, objects and actions.

Daniel von Sturmer is Associate Professor, Fine Art, Monash Art, Design and Architecture.

Most of these projects were produced in Kulin Nations Country. I acknowledge and thank the Wurundjeri, Boon Wurrung, Waddawurrung, Taungurung and Dja Dja Wurrung Peoples as Traditional Custodians of these lands and waterways, and offer my respect to their Elders past and present. Sovereignty was never ceded.
